it could be the piston that the engine vacuum opens up is sticking.if the engine runs good on prime . i would suspect the petcock too. remove it and carefully unassemble it. get some throttle body cleaner and spray down the parts to remove any varnish or krud . before you put it back in the tank,get a piece of hose and hook it up to the vacuum hose barb,suck on it a little and see if the piston is working.
